The MFT profession in Alaska received a huge boost when Governor Bill Walker signed legislation that will add MFTs as Medicaid eligible providers! While this has been a goal for AkAMFT for many years, with the help of AAMFT, money from the Practice Protection Fund to hire a professional lobbyist, we were able to get Medicaid recognition in four short months! Thank you AAMFT for jumping in and spending time and money helping Alaska accomplish a goal some states only dream of!
Members of the AkAMFT Board as well as the AK Regulatory Board were pleased to join Governor Walker, Senator David Wilson, and Representative Ivy Spohnholz at the bill signing ceremony. Said Governor Bill Walker, "It’s really an honor for me to be here today and sign it … I’ve never had this type of signing so I’d like to say thanks, it’s a very significant step in the right direction and I’m very pleased with that.”
As the President of AkAMFT, I was incredibly lucky to speak with the Governor, as well as his wife, and receive one of the actual pens he used to sign the bill as a thank you for AkAMFT's hard work on the bill. It truly was a great honor to speak with the Gubernatorial team, Senator Wilson, and Representative Spohnholz and thank them personally for this victory that affects all Alaskan MFTs and families who need our help. This great victory for the Alaska MFT profession was only possible thanks to AAMFT and donations to the Practice Protection Fund. Please donate today to keep this momentum going!
